Leadership Breakfast > Sponsor Letter

The First Annual Hartford Youth Scholars Leadership breakfast fundraiser will take place on Friday December 2, 2011. Please join us and sponsor a table to support an organization doing great work for Hartford’s most deserving students.

The Hartford Youth Scholars Leadership Breakfast is designed to celebrate the best of Hartford’s own, while raising funds to support the Hartford Youth Scholars Foundation, and its exemplary student scholars.

This year we have chosen Francisco L. Borges, Chairman and Managing Partner of Landmark Partners and former Treasurer of the State of Connecticut as our keynote speaker. Mr. Borges is a community leader who currently serves on the boards of Connecticut Public Broadcasting Network, Knight Foundation, and University of Connecticut Health Center.  He is a former treasurer of the National NAACP, and a former board member of Hartford Foundation of Public Giving. He is committed to Greater Hartford and making it a better place to work, live and raise a family, something we hope our scholars will do once they complete their education. In addition, two of our student scholars will speak at the Breakfast.

With a focus on improving opportunities for the students of Hartford, the Hartford Youth Scholars Foundation’s primary goal is to increase College access for young people in Hartford; The Steppingstone Academy Hartford is an after school program during the academic year and over the summer spanning 26 months that improves students academic readiness.   In addition, we provide opportunities for our Scholars to apply to and attend some of the regions best independent schools. Our ultimate goal is to have more Hartford students graduate from high school prepared to attend college and be career ready.

A few highlights of The Hartford Youth Scholars

100% of the students who have attended the Steppingstone Academy Hartford are on track to graduate high school, compared to a 60% graduation rate from Hartford Public

Over 80% of students who begin the program matriculate from the Steppingstone

Over 70% of students have been placed at Independent School with financial aid.

We serve a population that 56% African American and 29% Hispanic.

Thank you very much for your consideration of the Hartford Youth Scholars Foundation. A sponsorship form is attached that you can send back with your donation. Any amount you can provide toward the sponsorship is greatly appreciated.  If you are able to commit by October 28 we can include you in our invitation and promotional materials. We hope to see you on December 2, 2011.
