Anthony Byers, Co-Director, Preparation, Support Services, Recruitment and Placement

Anthony joined HYSF at its founding in 2007, and has moved from working primarily with the admissions process to working with Scholars in the support services.  In 2010 he became Program Director and became responsible for staff management and program oversight.  In 2011 he was named Co-Director for Programs and oversees placement, and support services. Anthony earned his B.A. in 2007 from the University of Connecticut. He majored in Economics with a focus on the socioeconomics of race and gender.  He is a graduate of the Master’s School and a native of Hartford. In addition Anthony also serves on the Board of Directors of The COmmunity Farm of Simsbury.

Roxanna Booth Miller, Co-Director, Development, Marketing and Operations

Roxanna joined HYSF in January 2011, and was made Co-Director for Operations and Development in August.  She has over 15 years of experience in fund-raising, public relations and special event management. Roxanna worked at Trinity College for 10 years in several capacities within their Advancement division.  After leaving Trinity in 2007 she worked with a variety of non-profits in the Hartford area including the Girl Scouts of Connecticut, Charter Oak Cultural Center, Leadership Greater Hartford and Achieve! Hartford. She is also a Board Member of the Mandell Jewish Community Center of Greater Hartford. She is a graduate of Wheaton College.

Welbith Mota, Program Dean


Welbith is a 2010 graduate of Connecticut College.  Prior to enrolling in Connecticut College, he graduated from Torrington High School and spent a post-graduate year at The Westminster School. In 2010, he earned a degree in Social Justice, with a concentration in Education. While at Connecticut, Welbith served as President of his class, Senator on the Student Government Association, and Diversity and Equity Chair of the Student Government Association’s Executive Board. Welbith first became an HYSF intern in 2008, returning in 2009 to teach two courses at The Academy. In 2010, he joined HYSF as Manager of The Steppingstone Academy Hartford and was promoted to oversee placement in 2011.

Keith Farrell, Support Services Manager

Keith is a 2009 graduate of Connecticut College where he double majored in Mathematics and Political Science. During his time at Connecticut College, Keith was heavily involved in student government and environmental activism. Keith also spent a half year studying abroad in Englad at Oxford University. Sisnce graduating in 2009, Keith has spent two and a half years teaching in New Orleans through Teach For America. He was stationed at Sojourner Truth Academy, a small charter school in the city where he taught Algebra II and Pre Calculus. Keith started at HYSF in the summer of 2011 as a Mathematics instructor and was recently promoted to be the Dean of Support Services.

Melicia Morris, Program Manager - Grants

Melicia is a Hartford native, graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2011. She holds a Bachelors of Arts with honors in Political Science, a minor in History, and a certificate in Public Policy specializing in health and education disparities in urban communities. Prior to working with HYSF Melicia has worked with the Embassy of Mexico in Washington DC, the Office of Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick in Boston, and Achieve Hartford! in Hartford.

Kameyia Van Allen, Program Associate Recruitment/Office Administrator

Kameyia joined HYSF in November 2009 after volunteering for the organization for several months. Prior to joining HYSF, Kameyia worked for the Hartford Public School System for 5 years holding various positions working in an executive level position in an school/central office environment. She is a native of Hartford and currently pursing her Bachelors degree in Psychology at Bay Path College, and later her Master’s in Business. Kameyia’s son is a Steppingstone Scholar and currently attends Avon Old Farms School. In September 2011, Kameyia was promoted to oversee recruitment.
