It's hard work. I definitely had to adjust to balance school and my extracurriculars but the reward has been great.

Hartford Youth Scholars Foundation

Founded in 2005, the Hartford Youth Scholars Foundation (HYSF) is dedicated to strengthening the city of Hartford by developing and implementing academic programs that increase college access for Hartford schoolchildren. HYSF's first initiative, The Steppingstone Academy Hartford, prepares highly motivated students for admission to and success at Connecticut's top independent high schools. By increasing educational opportunities, HYSF supports the development of a vibrant and productive community, making Hartford a better place in which to live, work, and raise a family. The Steppingstone Academy Hartford is HYSF’s primary program; it combines 14 months of rigorous out-of-school and after-school academic enrichment and 5+ years of support services for families and Scholars. The ultimate goal is college graduation for every HYSF Scholar.

Steppingstone Academy Hartford

The Steppingstone Academy Hartford is an academic enrichment and preparation program designed to expose students to the academic rigor found at top independent schools. The program consists of classes during two six-week summer sessions as well as one academic year session. Scholars split into two teams to create small classes. This ensures that all students have a high level of engagement with their teachers and a high level of accountability in the classroom. Over the course of fourteen months, Scholars are challenged to undertake coursework that exceeds the rigor and difficulty found at most public schools. The program is designed to encourage Scholars to take responsibility for their learning process and helps them to take intellectual risks and challenge the world around them. Further, The Academy prepares Scholars for the social and cultural transitions they will encounter in high school and college.
